The collision between heaven, hell and earth. It undid the separation of planes in something that can only be described as a big bang type of occurrence. People refer to it as 'The Fall', since heaven and earth basically 'fell' down to hell. The reason? The war between heaven and hell; both sides clashing so violently they destroyed the separation keeping the planes from collapsing into each other.

50 years after the fall; Most demons and angels survived the collision, most of humanity had not. There are still enough humans left to be considered significant though. There used to be billions, after all. Though reduced to a mere couple of millions, they still invade the world like the rodents they are, if you use the phrasing of the Angels and Demons.

The world is a messed-up mixture of hellish landscapes, remnants of human civilization, lush greens and divine planes. Sometimes all within a 10-minute walk. In these 50 years, humans have learned to adapt, demons and angels have morphed to fit the new conditions better and hybrids (often the result of rape by either angels or demons) have sprouted.

The war is still going on, but humans are now smack in the middle of something they did not ask for nor wanted. However, to survive, most have either joined the forces of hell or heaven, with only a couple of neutral sanctuaries left in the world. In these sanctuaries, humans, hybrids and anyone that does not want to fight, but merely live, are safe and protected. This is based on a non-belligerency pact called 'The soul treaty', since this is mainly for the soulful ones (the general name Angels and Demons give humans and hybrids). Any humanoids outside of these sanctuaries are ripe for the picking, often used as bait or put into working camps for either side. So basically, choose an allegiance, stay at a sanctuary, or have a bad time.

The blast of raw arcane energy that followed the fall altered something significant in some humans. More specifically their souls, the core of everything. Some humans developed what is called 'Soul fire', named after the fact that Angels and Demons that can sense or even see the soul of a person say it looks like a raging inferno tied to one's soul. The soul fire grants a person great powers, which can manifest in all sorts of ways. Not one soul fire is identical, not until the next cycle anyway (reincarnation, when a soul fire dies, the soul will be tied to another unborn child, they will be the reincarnation of the previous soul fire and have the same powers. Yet they can be vastly different people).

The powers do not always manifest at birth, more often than not there is a trigger for their soul fire to blaze. Such as a traumatic experience, nearly dying, the overwhelming need to save someone, or sometimes even something as silly as getting ones period.

Soul fires often show traits of their respective powers. Some turn into full monsters, while other might just get glowing eyes or seemingly burned fingertips. Some don't get any physical traits, or no visible ones.

Soul fire examples are; Telepathy, telekinesis, brute strength, super speed, shapeshifting, blood control, control of one or several elements, shadow powers, teleportation, healing, and sometimes a combination of all. Soul fires have levels from 1 to 5, each referring to how many powers one has. 1 means one, 5 means 5. It also shows how dangerous a Soul fire is, though do not be mistaken: Even a tier 1 Soul fire can be extremely dangerous, depending on their power. Nobody has ever had more than 5 before, which is why that is the cap.

Soul fires are rare, highly sought after by angels and demons alike to aid in the war.

Angels come in many shapes and forms. From biblically accurate Seraphims (though they are almost extinct, caught in the initial blast of the Fall) to archangels and lower class warriors, or even healers and pacifists (there are some, though Angel society is quick to instill the art of war in their children. Following will be a short elaboration on each type of Angel (Seraphim excluded for now).Angels have basic powers that are bound in the divine energies. Healing is one of them, though less pronounced when one is also a warrior. They can bend divine energies and focus this into their bodies to gain speed boosts or extra strength, but they can also use it to wield powerful divine weapons (used to materialize them) or channel them into magic attacks. This power is finite and takes its toll on the user, so they will always be careful with the use of it.

Archangels

Angels as you often see them depicted in modern times. Humanoids with large, crystalline wings. Since The Fall, it is possible for Angels to have crystalline wings. sometimes seemingly burning. Crystalline feathers and wings are seen as an omen of great power. Most, if not all, angels sporting crystalline wings end up being highly ranked. Most of them reaching the Archangel title, great generals and leaders.The Archangels are the most powerful Angels there are and highly dangerous and skilled in battle. Their repertoire consists of the summoning of Angelic weapons, heightened use of their innate magical abilities, larger pools of magic flowing through their bodies and they often have some sort of elemental control as well.Their wings are much more deadly and powerful than those of common warriors and angels, a good hit from them able to render a human or (lower) demon unconscious (or simply dead, if that is what they want to achieve). The airflow produced from a single powerful flap from their wings enough to knock anyone on their ass.

Healers

Softer and more attuned to the magic of the world than their counterparts, healers are just as their name implies: Healers. They are able to tap into the magic of the leylines littering the earth, still rich with angelic magical energy, and focus it into healing magic.

The Damned

Angels that have turned dark. They still fight for the Angelic cause, however their morals have been abandoned.They are ruthless warriors, cold and calculated, cruel. They have lost their humanity. This is because of their own choices and actions. It has altered their appearance, stripping them from some of their human facial features, but their anatomy stays humanoid (unlike the Sentinels).They are often seen with black feathered wings, or a combination of black and white feathers, a physical testament to their descend into darkness.

The Sentinels

Twisted by the arcane energies that now inhabit the world, the sentinels are warped into Avian creatures, more bird than man. They're watchers, but also incredibly dangerous warriors, in different stages of what the angels call 'corruption'.Going from still having some form of their humanoid angelic appearance (mainly confined to a humanoid stature, but with significant Avian features such as claws, talons, feathers all over their body) to straight up avian creatures. Yet, they remain angelic instead of demonic and do not descend into darkness like the Damned.Some of them can copy humanoid sounds, using a mimic system for their voices, though most can communicate telepathically with others. They are still very much sentient, not mere mindless beasts. Feathers can be anything from white to black, some even sporting brown wings and patterns. If reaching full Avian form (not all do, staying in that in-between of Avian and humanoid), they are enormous. They are most often seen in crystalline fields.
